Corrections

Pages on this site quote sections, rates, dates and figures, and any of them can be wrong or can go out of date. This page defines what counts as an error, explains how to report one and what happens after a report, and keeps the log of corrections made since launch.

What counts as an error

An error is anything on a page that a primary source contradicts: a wrong section number or Legal Notice; a figure, rate or date that does not match the Act, the Regulations, the regulator's page, the Income Tax Act, the Excise Duty Act or a provider's own page as it stood on the access date shown; a sum in a worked example or in the RTP calculator that does not add up; a company name or domain that differs from the regulator's list; a broken link; a sentence that could be read as a recommendation, a ranking or a promotion, which this site does not publish.

A rule that changed after the access date is not an error in the page as written, but it is still worth reporting; the page is then updated and the change logged.

How to report one

No contact channel is published yet; the contact page explains why. When one opens, a useful report names the page, quotes the sentence, and points to the source that contradicts it: the section of the Act, the regulation, the regulator's page, or the provider's page. A report that says only that something looks wrong is read too, but it takes longer to act on.

What happens next

  1. The source cited in the report is opened and compared with the page and with the facts register the site is built from.
  2. If the page is wrong, the sentence is corrected, the page's updated date changes, and a row is added to the log below with the date, the page and a one-line description.
  3. If the register was wrong, every page that used the same fact is checked and corrected.
  4. If the page was right, nothing changes, and the report is kept in case the source itself changes later.

Corrections to meaning are logged. Typing errors and formatting fixes that do not change what a sentence says are made silently.

What is not a correction

Requests to add, remove or re-word a mention of an operator or a game for commercial reasons are declined and are not treated as corrections. The how we make money page sets out why.
